Biography

Albert J. LaChance, Ph.D., LADC, CAS, has written and spoken widely on the subjects of psychology, addiction, spirituality, and ecology. For the last fourteen years, he has run Greenspirit: The Center for Counseling and Consciousness, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He has counseled individuals, families, and groups and has consulted organizations regarding interpersonal dynamics. Prior to those fourteen years, Dr. LaChance spent five years in a one-on-one relationship with Thomas Berry at his Riverdale Center for Religious Research. Dr. LaChance is an American Academy certified Addiction Specialist in the areas of sex addiction and chemical dependency. He is a clinical associate of Dr. Patrick Carnes. He is a member of the National Council of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity. He is also a member of the American Psychotherapy Association as well as the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. He is also a licensed Addictions Counselor in the state of New Hampshire.

Dr. LaChance has been interviewed widely on television and radio, in newspapers and in magazines. He has published three books and is the author of several others. His first book, Greenspirit, is a major contribution in the fields of psychology, spirituality, and ecology. His book, Embracing Earth, co-authored with J. E. Carroll, drew upon the Christian tradition for its psycho-spiritual and ecological insights. His fourteen hundred line mystical poem, Jonah, springs from the poetry of T. S. Eliot and creates a poetic hero journey, in the tradition of Joseph Campbell, leading to the new creation story of Thomas Berry. He has written a book entitled Church of Christ the Mystic, based upon the religion of the same name. His latest book, The Architecture of the Soul, is contracted to be published by North Atlantic Books, in 2004. He has contributed chapters to several books, including The Other Half of my Soul, a compilation of authors including the Dalai Lama, The Greening of Faith, (Carroll, Brockelman and Westfall eds.), and he wrote the introduction to Dom Helder Camara's book, Sister Earth. He has taught world religions from high school through to the graduate level, at several colleges, including the University of New Hampshire, New England College and the College for Lifelong Learning.

Dr. LaChance continues to write, counsel, teach and speak on all the above topics. He has spoken nationally for Cross Country University on the topic of Sex Addiction, and Psychology and Spirituality, and has conducted numerous local workshops. His experience makes him a very knowledgeable and skilled instructor.
